Artificial Christmas Trees: How to Choose the Right Size & Style
Choosing an artificial Christmas tree comes down to four things: height, width, lighting and style. This guide walks through each one so you order the right tree the first time. Every tree in our Christmas tree collection ships from a US warehouse and typically arrives in 3–5 business days.
1. Pick the right height
Measure your ceiling, then subtract about 12 inches for the tree topper. A 6 ft tree suits standard 8 ft ceilings, a 7.5 ft tree suits 9 ft ceilings, and 9 ft trees are for tall living rooms, lobbies and open stairwells.
2. Check the width
Leave at least 20 inches of clearance around the tree for walking and gifts. In smaller rooms, a slim or pencil tree gives you height without the footprint.
3. Pre-lit or unlit?
Pre-lit trees save setup time and give an even glow. Unlit trees let you choose your own lights and colors. If you already own lights you love, unlit is the better value.
4. Choose your style
- Classic green: full, traditional and works with any decor.
- Flocked or snow-dusted: a frosted winter look, best against dark walls.
- Slim or pencil: space-saving for apartments and entryways.
- Heritage and designer: richer finishes for statement rooms.
Flocked vs pre-lit: what is the difference?
They are not opposites. Flocked describes the snowy finish on the branches, while pre-lit means lights are built in. Many trees are both.
